IOWA CITY, Iowa – Former Hawkeye student-athlete Tom Ferree will be the honorary referee at Saturday’s Iowa Open track meet. Ferree was a four-time letterwinner at Iowa, earning varsity letters in cross country from 1978-80 and track and field in 1978. He is a member of the National Iowa Varsity Club and a long-time contributor to Hawkeye athletics.
Ferree resides in Appleton, WI, with his wife, Carol, and their two children, Sarah and Nathan. He obtained his degree in Accounting in 1979 and his master’s degree in Finance in 1980, both from the University of Iowa. Ferree is currently the Senior Vice President of Finance, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of Appleton Papers, Inc.
“We’re very excited to have Tom Ferree serve as the honorary captain this weekend,” said Head Men’s Track Coach Larry Wieczorek. “We’re fortunate to have a distinguished alumni base so willing to stay involved in Hawkeye athletics. Tom and his wife, Carol, are both former student-athletes and tremendous supporters of our athletic program.”
The men and women’s track teams host the Iowa Open Saturday at the UI Recreation Building. Field events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. with running events set to start at 12:15 p.m. There is no admission charge.
