IOWA CITY, Iowa — This Week, `On Iowa’ caught up with the coaching staffs of four Iowa sports on Feb. 15.

Iowa women’s tennis head coach Katie Dougherty talked about the challenging road slate her Hawkeyes face this week at Marquette and DePaul. She also touched on the importance of the non-conference schedule in helping her team continue to improve.

The women’s golf team opens the 2011 spring season at the Kaiwah Island Women’s Intercollegiate Feb. 20-22 in South Carolina. Assistant coach John Owens hopes the Hawkeyes can build on the momentum from the fall campaign.

UI head baseball coach Jack Dahm and his Hawkeyes are gearing up to open the 2011 season Feb. 18 against West Virginia in the Big Ten/Big East Challenge. Dahm’s focus in practice has been stretching out the pitchers and relievers. He’s preaching to his team to stay in the moment, and approach the season on a day-to-day basis.

Head men’s tennis coach Steve Houghton is excited to return to the HTRC for his team’s next four matches. The Hawkeyes will face some stiff non-conference competition before hosting top-15 ranked Illinois in the Big Ten opener Mar. 6.
