KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. — The University of Iowa women’s golf team played its third round at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic Tuesday. The Hawkeyes carded a 323 (+35) in the final round while playing on the Oak Point course at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort. The Black and Gold finished the 54-hole tournament with a score of 953 (312-318-323) to finish in 23rd place. Miami (FL) (296-297-295=888) won the tournament title, while Campbell (299-301-297=897) took second and Florida International (298-303-300=901) was third.
For a third straight day, Iowa had a different low-scorer. Senior Lauren Forbes led the Hawkeyes Tuesday, posting a 78 (+6). Sophomore Kristi Cardwell recorded an 80 (+8) for the second straight day. The Hawkeye scorecard was rounded out by junior Chelsea Harris (81), sophomore Gigi DiGrazia (84) and senior Laura Cilek (89).
Over the three day event, Harris posted a team-best 54-hole total of 236 (79-76-81) and ended tied for 76th. Forbes finished the tournament two strokes off Harris’ pace with a 238 (76-84-78). Cilek carded the lowest 18-hole score, shooting a first round 74 (+2) while playing the Cougar Point course Sunday.
Iowa will tee off next in Primm, Nev., at the Jack Rabbit Invitational March 14-15.
