VALPARAISO, Ind. – The University of Iowa volleyball team’s spring season continued with a five-set match at Valparaiso last Saturday.
The Hawkeyes fell in five sets, but the team’s approach to the competition has head coach Sharon Dingman optimistic about the future.
“Clearly we weren’t successful in the win-loss column,” said Dingman. “However, the best way for me to put this is we weren’t successful for all the right reasons. This group of athletes is the most committed group we’ve had in terms of lifting, conditioning, and making changes.
“We don’t taper for spring competitions so we were exhausted mentally and physically, but that’s a credit to their preparation. I’m very proud of their work ethic.”
The Hawkeyes close the spring season Saturday at the Minnesota Spring Tournament in Minneapolis. Iowa will face Minnesota, North Dakota, North Dakota State and Wisconsin.
“We are looking to continue improving our serving, passing and blocking this weekend. It will be a great tournament for us to conclude our spring season.”
