IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa senior Vince India has been named Big Ten Conference men’s co-Golfer of the Week after earning medalist honors last weekend during Iowa’s Hawkeye-TaylorMade Invitational. The announcement was made Wednesday by the Big Ten Conference office.
The honor is the second this season for India, a native of Deerfield, Ill. He shares the honor this week with Purdue’s William Sjaichudin.
India shot back-to-back rounds of one-under-par 71 on Iowa’s Finkbine Golf Course over the weekend to share medalist honors with one competitor. The Hawkeyes won the 11-team tournament that was shortened to 36 holes due to Saturday’s inclement weather.
“Vince played really solid,” said Iowa Coach Mark Hankins, following India’s performance last weekend. “Down the stretch he made a couple of real solid birdies. He just played real solid, patient golf and it paid off for him.”
India was named Big Ten men’s golfer of the Week April 6 after leading Iowa to a third place finish at the LSU National Invitational. India placed second as an individual at the LSU event with a three-round score of even par.
The Hawkeyes return to action April 23-24, traveling to Columbus, Ohio to compete in the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate, hosted by Ohio State.
