IOWA CITY, Iowa – – The University of Iowa women’s golf team has added a third member to its 2011 recruiting class. The Hawkeyes have signed Nicole Rae of St. Charles, Ill. to a National Letter of Intent. Rae will join Iowa in the fall of 2011.
“We are very excited to add Nicole to our roster,” said Head Coach Kelly Crawford. “She is the 2010 Conference Player of the Year from East H.S. in St. Charles, Ill. She is a hard worker and has great leadership skills. Combined with her excellent academics, she will be a tremendous addition to our Hawkeye family.”
Rae was a four-year starter on the varsity golf team at St. Charles East. Her four-year scoring average was the second-best in the 21-year history of St. Charles East women’s golf. She also holds the school nine-hole record at Naperbrook Golf Course with a 34 (-2). Rae was the 2010 team MVP, 2010 Conference Player of the Year and a first-team all-area selection according to the Kane Country Chronicle after posting 13-medalist rounds (out of 18) in 2010. She was an individual qualifier for the 2010 state meet. She guided her team to a fifth place finish at the state tournament in 2008 and an eighth place finish at the 2009 state meet. She led St. Charles East to three regional championships, two conference championships and a 2009 sectional championship. Rae was a three-time all-conference selection and a four-time academic all-conference selection during her high school career.
Iowa loses three seniors from its 2010-11 roster. Rae is joining a freshman class that includes Lauren English of Bloomington, Ill. and Shelby Phillips of Gilbert, Ariz.
