Recruiting Class Earns National Recognition

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa volleyball program’s 2011 recruiting class earned Highest Honorable Mention honors from PrepVolleyball.com. It is the second consecutive year the Hawkeyes have earned the national recognition.

The honor is bestowed to those schools that just missed being ranked inside the top 30. The national recruiting website ranked the top 30 incoming classes and the Big Ten Conference was well represented with three teams in the top 10 and seven in the top 30. Penn State led all Big Ten schools with the No. 2 class. Nebraska enters its first year in the Big Ten with the No. 13 recruiting class.

Iowa’s incoming class of six freshmen and one transfer student includes Grace Burns, 5-9 libero, Geneva, Ill. (Grand Valley State); Erin Leppek, 6-0 MB, Rochester Hills, Mich. (Rochester HS); Alexandra Lovell, 5-11 OH, Leonard, Mich. (Marian HS); Megan Makuck, 5-7 libero, Atlanta, Ga. (Blessed Trinity Catholic HS); Kari Mueller, 5-7 libero, Iowa City, Iowa (Iowa City HS); Allison O’Deen, 5-11 OH, Iowa City, Iowa (Iowa City West HS); Emily Yanny, 6-2 MB, New Berlin, Wis. (Eisenhower HS).

The Hawkeyes open the 2011 season by hosting the Hawkeye Challenge Aug. 26-27 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
