IOWA CITY, Iowa — Junior Troy Doris led a list of 14 University of Iowa track and field student-athletes named USTFCCCA All-Americans following the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field season. The announcement was made today by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Doris earned first team All-America honors following his fifth place performance at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships last week in Des Moines, Iowa. Doris’ All-America honor is the second of the 2011 season. He was also named to the All-America first team following the indoor season.
First team USTFCCCA All-America accolades are awarded to those who earn any portion of a team point at the national championships, or reach an eight-entrant final.
Junior Erik Sowinski earned two second team All-America honors following his performances in the 800 meters and the 1,600-meter relay. Senior Chris Barton, junior Patrick Richards and senior Steven Willey were also members of the All-America relay team. Other second team honorees include junior Betsy Flood (5,000 meters), junior Jeffery Herron (high jump) and sophomore Ethan Holmes (400-meter hurdles).
Second team All-America honors are handed out to those whose final placing in the national meet range from ninth to 16th place.
Those who participated at the final site, but did not place in the meet’s top 16, are listed as honorable mention for the All-America award. Iowa’s honorable mention All-Americans include sophomore Justin Austin (200m), junior Brooke Eilers (5,000m) and members of the women’s 1,600-meter relay; junior Nicole Erickson, senior Tiffany Hendricks, freshman Ashley Liverpool and senior Bethany Praska.
The Hawkeye All-Americans combined to set five school records during the outdoor season.
