Hawkeyes Set for Competition at National Meets

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Five University of Iowa track and field student-athletes will compete this weekend for the chance to represent Team USA at the IAAF World Championships August 27- September 4 in Daegu, South Korea. The Hawkeyes will need to meet the qualifying `A’ standard and finish in the top three of their respective events at the USA Championships in Eugene, Ore. Competition begins today and concludes Sunday at Hayward Field.

Bethany Praska, a three-time Big Ten champion in 2011, will compete in the women’s 800 meters. Big Ten Track Athlete of the Year Justin Austin will run in the 100 and 200 meters. All-American Ethan Holmes will compete in the 110m and 400m hurdles. Big Ten medalist D’Juan Richardson will run in the 400m hurdles and two-time Big Ten champion Troy Doris will compete in the triple jump.

Hawkeye freshman Nathan Prom will compete in the 800 meters at the USA Junior Championship this weekend. The USA Junior Championships serve as the selection meet for the 2011 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships, July 22-24, in Miramar, Fla. The top two finishers in each event in Eugene will be invited to compete as members of Team USA.

The event will be featured on three networks, in six broadcasts spread over three days of competition. Broadcasts will air on ESPN2, Universal and NBC. View the full TV schedule HERE.
