Hawkeyes to Appear at Iowa State Fair

It’s black & gold at the state fair

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Hawkeye fans and fair-goers will have a chance to meet and reminisce with former athletes, coaches and broadcasters at the University of Iowa’s exhibit at the Iowa State Fair until Sunday, Aug. 22.

Several “Hawkeye Heroes” will visit the UI exhibit, with the remaining schedule as follows:

Tuesday, Aug. 16
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. — Kyle McCann, football 1998-01
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. — Nolden Gentry, basketball 1957-60
2-4 p.m. — Hugh Drake, football 1956-58
2-4 p.m. — Sherwyn Thorson, football, wrestling 1959-61, 1960 & 1962

Friday, Aug. 19
11 a.m. to 2 p.m. — Matt Whitaker, football 1990-92

Saturday, Aug. 20
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. — Chuck Yagla, wrestling 1973-76
3-5 p.m. — Butch Devine, wrestling 1964-65
3-5 p.m. — John Filloon, football 1988-91

Sunday, Aug. 21
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. — Gary Dolphin, broadcaster 1996-present

Herky will also be at the fair on Friday, Aug. 19.

Visitors will also have the chance to win tickets to UI athletic events and to sport their school pride with Hawkeye temporary tattoos and football posters. The Insight Bowl and CyHawk trophies will be on display, along with others won by UI athletic teams.
