UI Hires New Game Day Security Firm

IOWA CITY, Iowa — – Whelan Security has been selected as the UI Athletics Department’s event security provider, the UI announced Tuesday.

With more than 4, 000 employees providing security services at more than 700 client locations, Whelan is one of the largest family-owned, privately-held security firms in the country. It’s client list includes the National Football League’s Minnesota Vikings franchise and Major League Baseball’s St. Louis Cardinals. The UI becomes the first NCAA Division I institution to contract with Whalen.

Whelan will have a provide ushers, ticket takers, bag checkers field/court security, parking control and supervisors at all of the UI’s home football games at historic Kinnick Stadium, and all men’s and women’s basketball and wrestling events at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
