Ihm Earns Big Ten Golfer of the Week Honors

Oct. 26, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa sophomore Steven Ihm brought home Big Ten Golfer of the Week honors after a top-10 finish at the 2011 U.S. Collegiate Championship. The Peosta, Iowa, native led the Hawkeyes to a T-5th finish and tied for eighth individually. With an opening round of four-under par, Ihm played consistent golf throughout the tournament and finished with a 54-hole mark of 213 (-3), tying his personal best as a Hawkeye.

“Steven helped himself this week with a solid opening round,” said Head Coach Mark Hankins. “He stayed within his game after that and played smart golf. His focus helped him remain calm and finish with an impressive score on a difficult course.”

A former NJCAA Freshman of the Year, Ihm has recorded two top-10 finishes in four events this fall. He currently owns a season scoring average of 73.33, the second-lowest average for the Hawkeyes.

“Steven has done a great job of getting settled in this fall,” added Hankins. “He’s handled each tournament one round at a time and continues to approach every shot one at a time.”

The Hawkeyes will return to action Oct. 31-Nov. 1 at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate co-hosted by Baylor and Southern Methodist. The two-day event will be played at the Royal Oaks Country Club in Dallas, Texas.
