IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa head volleyball coach Sharon Dingman announced today that two high school seniors have committed to join the Hawkeyes in 2012. Erin Radke and Anne Yanda have signed National Letters of Intent to attend the University of Iowa next fall.
“The addition of Anne and Erin immediately makes us more athletic and deeper in critical positions,” said Dingman. “We expect both to make an immediate impact on our program. Anne’s experience and Erin’s athleticism address a couple needs. They’ll add depth and give our program the added ability to play above the net.”
Yanda, a 5-11 setter from Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School in Atlanta, Ga., is a three-time all-state honoree and team MVP. She was named on the Prepvolleyball.com Sophomore 79 list in 2009 and a Prepvolleyball.com Senior Ace in 2011. She holds school records for kills, aces and assists in a single match, and is the school record holder for single-season assists. She led Holy Innocents to three Final Fours and one Elite Eight appearance at the Georgia state tournament, and has twice placed in the top three at nationals while competing for A5 volleyball club.
“Anne will join the Hawkeyes with a lot of experience playing at a high level,” said Dingman. “As a setter, she has led her club team to a No. 1 national ranking while twice earning All-America honors. She is a non-stop competitor and leader.”
Radke, a 6-1 left-handed right side hitter from Sioux Falls, S.D., attends Lincoln High School, where she holds the school record for kills in a season. She was a first-team all-conference selection in 2010 and 2011, and was named to the South Dakota state all-tournament team following her sophomore and junior seasons. Radke earned first-team all-state honors in 2010 and was nominated as South Dakota’s Gatorade Player of the Year in 2010 and 2011. Radke will try to lead Lincoln to its second state championship in as many seasons later this week.
“Erin joins our other Erin (Leppek) as the most pure athletes on the Hawkeye roster,” said Dingman. “She is a big jumper who plays as high above the net as anyone I’ve coached. She is so dynamic and fun to watch play the game.
“Both Erin and Anne grew up as Hawkeyes, having parents that attended Iowa. They’re both very excited to wear the Black and Gold, and we’re proud to welcome them to the University of Iowa.”
