IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa dance team went head-to-head with the best collegiate dance team in the state of Iowa and came away champions on Dec. 3.
The Hawkeyes halted Iowa State’s three-year reign in the Jazz Division A category at the ISDTA state competition. The UI dance team broke the Cyclones’ streak by taking first place with its routine to “Piece of My Heart” by Melissa Etheridge.
Iowa State finished second, Northern Iowa third and Drake fourth in the competition.
The Hawkeyes, currently ranked eighth in the nation by the Universal Dance Association, will return to action at the UDA College National Championships in Orlando, Fla., on Jan. 13-15, where they will be competing in both the pom and jazz categories.
The team will host a send off show on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 6 p.m. in the North Gym of the UI Field House.
