Hawkeyes Head to New Balance Invite, Meyo Invite

THIS WEEK
The University of Iowa track and field team will be sending athletes to the New Balance Invitational in New York City and the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind. The New Balance Invitational will be held at the The Armory Track & Field Center in New York City, while the Meyo Invitational will be held at the Loftus Center on the campus of Notre Dame.

NEW BALANCE INVITATIONAL
The Hawkeyes will be sending six athletes to the New Balance Invitational. They include Annemie Smith, Jasmine Simpson, Ashlyn Gulvas, Majesty Tutson, Ryan Lamparek, and Matt Banse.

MEYO INVITATIONAL
Ten Hawkeye track and field members will head to the Meyo Invitational to compete in three events. Mareike Schrulle, Megan Renegar, Katherin Rehn, Jackie Laesch, McKenzie Melander, Brooke Eilers, and Danielle Berndt are set to compete in the 3000 meters. Betsy Flood and Jeff Thode will run in the mile, and Ashley Liverpool will compete in the 400 meters.

IN THE RANKINGS
The Hawkeye men’s team is ranked 19th in the latest USTFCCCA poll.

DORIS RECEIVES CO-FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Senior All-American Troy Doris was recognized Monday as the Big Ten Conference Co-Men’s Field Athlete of the Week. Doris placed first in the triple jump with a mark of 53-5 (16.28 m) at the Razorback Invitational last weekend. His triple jump distance ranks first in the Big Ten and second in the nation.

THODE HOLDS MILE RECORD
All-American junior Jeff Thode became the first runner in school history to clock a sub-four-minute mile, running the event in 3:58.72 at the Last Chance Qualifier on March 5, 2011. Thode earned a first place title in the event at the adidas Classic on Jan. 21, crossing the line in 4:08.52. Thode will look to improve his time at the Meyo Invitational this weekend. He clocked a 4:03.66 at the 2011 Meyo Mile.

CRACKIN’ THE TOP TEN
Six athletes earned their way into Iowa’s top-10 all-time performers list at the Razorback Invitational last weekend. Those athletes include senior Dan Davis (60-meter hurdles, 8th), freshman Torrey Campbell (60-meter hurdles, 7th), junior Nathan Prom (800 m, 9th), sophomore Zinnia Miller (Long jump, 9th), sophomore Carisa Leacock (Long jump, 4th), and freshman Josh Larney (long jump, 10th).

MEET THE RECORD HOLDERS
Seven Hawkeyes on the 2012 roster account for 10 individual school records. They include: Justin Austin: 60 (6.69) and 200 meters (20.80) Troy Doris: Triple Jump (54-0/16.46m) McKenzie Melander: Mile (4:39.78) Jordan Mullen: 60-meter hurdles (7.75) Erik Sowinski: 600 (1:16.91) and 800 meters (1:47.98) Kelsey Taylor: Weight Throw (60-4 1/2/18.40) Jeff Thode: Mile (3:58.72) and 3,000 meters (8:00.38)

NEXT ON THE BLOCK
Iowa will split competitors Feb. 10-11 between the Tyson Invite in Fayetteville, Ark., and the Cyclone Classic in Ames, Iowa.
