VICTORIA, Texas — The University of Iowa women’s golf team finished tied for second with Missouri at the Claud Jacobs Challenge presented by SCOR golf. The Hawkeyes ended the 54-hole tournament at 934 (309-312-313, +70). Texas State won the tournament title after firing a 901 (307-296-298, +37). The Bobcats hosted the event at the 6,087-yard, par 72 Victoria Country Club in Victoria, Texas.
“Consistency is a big key for us,” said head coach Megan Menzel. “I was really happy to see Kristi (Cardwell) and Gigi (DiGrazia) come out and put together three solid rounds this early in the season. It was a great opportunity for our team to battle at the top of the leaderboard and continue to evaluate our games. We are looking forward to competing again this coming weekend.”
Hawkeye junior Kristi Cardwell finished a season-best seventh after shooting a third-round 77 (+5). Cardwell ended the tournament with a season-low 54-hole score of 227 (74-76-77, +11). Freshman Shelby Phillips also carded a third-round 77 (+5). Phillips moved 15 spots up the leaderboard during the final round. She tied for 33rd at 242 (82-83-77, +26).
Junior Gigi DiGrazia finished tied for 12th at 231 (74-79-78, +15). DiGrazia posted a team-high seven birdies at the event.
Senior Chelsea Harris and freshman Lauren English finished in a 31st place tie. Harris and English both carded 241’s (+25).
Iowa’s next competition is Feb. 26-27 at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Ariz.
