Hawkeyes in 8th Place in Hawaii

Day 1 Results

O’AHU, Hawaii — The University of Iowa women’s golf team carded a 610 (308-312, +44) during the first two rounds of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational on Tuesday in Kane’ohe, O’ahu, Hawaii. The Hawkeyes enter Wednesday’s final round in eighth place.

UI freshman Shelby Phillips paced Iowa with a 36-hole score of 151 (76-75, +7). Phillips shot an even par 36 on the front nine holes in the second round. The Gilbert, Ariz., native ended Tuesday tied for seventh place.

Senior Chelsea Harris will begin the final round tied for 13th place. Harris fired a 153 (77-76, +9) that included four birdies. Senior Gigi DiGrazia and freshman Lauren English are tied for 45th after they both posted 158’s during the tournament’s first 36 holes. DiGrazia recorded a team-high six birdies. Junior Kristi Cardwell rounded out the Hawkeye scorecard with a 166 (83-83, +22).

Freshman Nicole Rae competed as an individual. Rae carded a 175 (88-87, +31).

Gonzaga leads the 14-team field after two rounds with at 602 (302-300, +23). Texas A&M (303-300=603, +27) and Coastal Carolina (305-302=307, +31) are in second and third, respectively. Hawai’i is hosting the 54-hole tournament at the 5,907 yard, par 72 Kane’ohe Klipper Golf Course on the Marine Corps Base in Kane’ohe, O’ahu, Hawaii.
