February a Record-Setter for hawkeyesports.com

March 21, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa – A pair of basketball teams and a wrestling team marching into March, the 2012 Big Ten Conference’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving championships, and the interest in the newest additions to the Iowa football program drove a record amount of traffic to hawkeyesports.com during the month of February 2012.

The official world wide web site of the Iowa Hawkeyes was a stop for more than 325,000 unique visitors during the month – a little more than 50,000 more unique visitors more than the previous high-water mark for the month of February established a year ago.

The visitors downloaded more than 2.07 million pages of information – 200,000 more than what was viewed a year ago.

Traffic to hawkeyesports.com is on a pace that will eclipse 21 million pages for the third consecutive academic year by a record 4 million unique visitors.

In addition, traffic to Hawkeye All-Access, the multi-media portal of hawkeyesports.com, spiked during the month. More than 40,000 pieces of video were downloaded during the four weeks, an increase of just under 100 percent compared to a year ago. The bulk of the increase was a result of the popularity of the videos made available on Iowa’s newest football recruits.

More than 16,000 pieces of video were downloaded during the week of the NCAA National Signing Day. That was an increase of 7,000 downloads during the same week in 2010.

Traffic to hawkeyesports.com is on a pace that will eclipse 21 million pages for the third consecutive academic year by a record 4 million unique visitors.

“hawkeyesports.com continues to be the definitive resource for friends of the UI and fans of the Iowa Hawkeyes by being a reliable source of outstanding – and often exclusive – editorial, video and photography,” said Rick Klatt, the UI’s associate athletics director for external relations.
