IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa spirit squads selected its 2012-13 team members Sunday. Individuals were selected for the cheerleading, dance team and Herky mascots to represent the Hawkeyes during the upcoming year.
The UI spirit squads can be seen at all football games, home volleyball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball and wrestling meets throughout the year. They also travel to bowl games and basketball tournaments at the end of the season.
All three teams competed at UCA/UDA Nationals in 2012 and aim to return to Orlando, Fla., for nationals in 2013. Iowa spirit squad members can also be seen at hundreds of events non-athletic related throughout the year.
The dance team selected 20 members for its team, this includes 12 returners and eight new members. The Iowa cheerleaders selected 25 to its squad with 15 returnees and 10 new members.
The 2012-13 Iowa spirit squad members include: Abby, Alayna, Alex, Alexis P., Alexis S., Alyssa, Amy H., Amy L., Anthony, Avery, Ben, Breanna, Brenna, Brian, Bryce, Caitlin, Callie, Cameron, Collyn, Emily, Haley, Hannah B., Hannah S., Jake, Janie, Javy, Jessica, John, Katie, Kaitlyn B., Kaitlyn D., Kelly M., Kelly T., Kelsey, Lauren, Leah, Lindsey, Mackenzie, Madeline, Maryah, McKenna, Michael, Nate, Oz, Patrick, Payton, Taylor, Tori, Sawyer, Sean and Tommy.
The Iowa spirit squads will practice and go to UCA/UDA camp this summer, while attending events throughout the summer. Their first game of the season will take place Sept. 1 in Chicago, Ill., when the Hawkeye football team faces Northern Illinois at Soldier Field.
