IOWA CITY, Iowa — Matt Weitzel, who has held the position of assistant director of Athletic Communications since 1998, has been promoted to associate director. The announcement was made Monday and is effective immediately.
Weitzel graduated from the University of Iowa in 1997 with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Journalism and Mass Communication, with an emphasis in Business. Weitzel was a student assistant in the sports information office for three years prior to joining the staff on a full-time basis.
Weitzel has worked with a number of sports during his tenure, serving as the primary contact for Iowa’s men’s basketball and baseball programs for the past three years. Weitzel will continue to handle publicity for the men’s basketball program and will serve as the secondary contact for Iowa football while assisting with additional areas of publicity as well.
Weitzel is a native of Mundelein, Ill.
