IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa sophomore Lauren English qualified for the 2012 U.S. Women’s Amateur on Monday, carding a 73 (+1) at Blackberry Oaks Country Club in Bristol, Ill. English was one of five golfers in the 47-player qualifier to advance to the U.S. Women’s Amateur.
English competed in 11 tournaments as a freshman last season, posting a 78.44 stroke average. She finished in the top-20 in three events, including a T12 finish at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic.
The Bloomington, Ill., native was ranked as the No. 1 player in Illinois and in the top 50 for the 2011 recruiting class out of high school.
English will compete alongside the best amateur golfers in the country at the U.S. Women’s Amateur, Aug. 6-12 at The Country Club in Cleveland.
