2 Hawkeyes Finish in Top 10 at Iowa Amateur

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Junior Steven Ihm and sophomore Ian Vandersee both finished inside the top-10 at the 110th Iowa Amateur Championship, hosted at Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington last weekend. Ihm tied for fifth place, while Vandersee finished tied for seventh.

Ihm carded a 54-hole score of 217 (+1). The Peosta, Iowa, native played consistent throughout the tournament and started the event with a 73 (+1). He finished with two-consecutive rounds of even par (72) to record a top-five finish.

Ihm was a PING All-Region selection and was named second team All-Big Ten in his first season at Iowa last year, after transferring from Indian Hills Community College. He was also named Big Ten Golfer of the Week after placing second at the Rod Myers Invitational in the fall.

Vandersee started his tournament with a 73 (+1). He shaved one stroke on Saturday for a 72 (E) and finished with another 73 (+1) for a three-round score of 218 (+2).

Vandersee was also a PING All-Region honoree and finished second in the running for Big Ten Freshman of the Year last season. The West Des Moines, Iowa, native has had a successful summer, winning the Des Moines Men’s City Golf Tournament and qualifying for the prestigious U.S. Amateur.

Only four players in the 156-player field shot under par at the Iowa Amateur Championship.
