Herky's Hustle 5K/Fun Run a Success

Sept. 19, 2012

Iowa City, Iowa — The University of Iowa spirit squads held the inaugural Herky’s Hustle 5K and Kids Fun Run on Sept. 16 at the Ashton Cross Country Course.

The course was full of energy and excitement as Herky ran with the kids for the Kids Fun Run portion, a one-mile run where everyone was a winner. The 5K offered divisional awards in age categories, as well as overall winners for males and females.

Unique to this event was a `Black and Gold Spirit’ award, presented to the team and individual that best showed their black and gold pride at the 5K. Herky was seen throughout the morning, posing for pictures with all of the participants as well as encouraging them along the route and at the finish.

The event was hosted as a fundraiser for the UI spirit squads to help it fund its trip to the UCA/UDA College Nationals held in January each year in Orlando. This is one of many events that are taking place throughout the year to help the squads meet their goal of Nationals.
