Fall Spirit Spectacular a Success

Oct. 8, 2012

Iowa City, Iowa — The University of Iowa spirit squads hosted its annual Fall Spirit Spectacular competition Oct. 6 inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Participants came from state-wide and ranged in ages from five to 18.

Ten teams participated in the cheer competition, all of which were supported by friends and family cheering along in the stands. Both all-star and high school teams arrived with extremely impressive and difficult routines. These teams were scored on: tumbling, stunting, pyramid building, cheering, and dancing.

In the all-star division the Rebel Elite All-Stars received the grand champion award, and for the school division Mason City High School took the title.

The dance competition had 25 entries, including both team routines and soloists. Teams had the opportunity to compete in four different categories: jazz, pom, hip-hop and high-kick. The variety of music, costumes and dancing kept the crowd entertained.

Grand champion awards were given to Iowa City High in the school division, and the Muscatine Academy – Red Hots in the All-Star division.

The Fall Iowa Spirit Spectacular was a huge success and a fun-filled day where talented teams from all across the state were able to show off their hard work. The Iowa spirit squad would like to thank all participants and their families for coming out and wish them the best of luck with the remainder of their seasons.
