MADISON, Wis. — The University of Iowa cross country runners Mareike Schrulle and Megan Ranegar each recorded personal best finishes at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational on Friday afternoon. The Hawkeyes recorded a team score of 864 to finish 37th in the 48 team event. The race was held at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course in Madison, Wis.
Schrulle’s personal best 6,000-meter time of 19:57 earned her a 12th place finish. That time ranks third all-time at Iowa. Schrulle, a graduate student, recorded her previous personal best time of 21:12 at the 2011 Big Ten Championships.
Ranegar, a junior, also recorded a personal best time. Ranegar crossed the line in 20:43 to finish 79th overall. Her time ranks seventh all-time at Iowa. Ranegar recorded her previous personal best time of 21:15 at the 2010 NCAA Regionals.
Senior Nicole Benson (245th; 21:42), freshman Cindy Saliba (259th; 21:48), senior Kelsey Hart (269th; 21:54), and freshman Courtney Martin (301st; 22:24) rounded out the Hawkeye lineup.
“I thought Mareike (Schrulle) ran an incredible race,” said head women’s cross country coach Layne Anderson. “Megan (Ranegar) had a great race as well, but we are still struggling to put together a total team effort. We have a couple weeks to polish up some loose ends and hopefully put it all together at the Big Ten Championships.”
The Hawkeyes will have a week off before heading to the Big Ten Cross Country Championships in East Lansing, Mich. Michigan State University will host the event. The Championships will be held at the Forest Akers East Golf Course.
