THIS WEEK
The University of Iowa men’s and women’s cross country teams head to the Big Ten Cross Country Championships this weekend. The championships will be held Sunday in East Lansing, Mich.
2012 BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2012 Big Ten Championships will be hosted by Michigan State University. The women’s 6K race is set to begin at 10:45 a.m. (ET) with the men’s 8K to follow at 11:45 a.m.
COMPETING FOR IOWA
Nick Holmes, Cameron Rieger, Jon Michael Brandt, Sam Chaney, Kevin Lewis, Ben Witt, Anthony Gregorio, Taylor Soltys, and Caleb Wilfong will represent the Hawkeye men, while Mareike Schrulle, Nicole Benson, Kelsey Hart, Lena Placzek, Megan Ranegar, Jocelyn Todd, Lisa Gordon, Courtney Martin, and Cindy Saliba will compete for the women.
2011 BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Hawkeye women tallied a team score of 149 to earn a sixth place finish at the 2011 Big Ten Championships, while the men came in 10th posting a score of 260. Michigan State won the 6,000-meter women’s event, while Wisconsin took the title in men’s 8,000 meters.
IN THE RANKINGS
Both the men’s and women’s cross country teams are ranked in the USTFCCCA Regional rankings. The women’s team is ranked seventh in the Midwest Region, while the men are ranked 10th.
BIG TEN NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Hawkeye women will face four nationally ranked foes this weekend. Those teams include: Michigan (7), Penn State (13), Michigan State (15) and Minnesota (25). The men’s team will face three nationally ranked teams including, Michigan (11), Wisconsin (20) and Indiana (24).
RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Graduate student Mareike Schrulle was recognized on Oct. 16 as the Big Ten Conference’s Runner of the Week after her performance at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational. Schrulle clocked a personal best 6,000-meter time of 19:57 to finish 12th. That time ranks third all-time at Iowa. The weekly honor is the first of Schrulle’s career.
HOLMES BACK ON TRACK
Senior captain Nick Holmes led the Hawkeyes at the Pre-National Invitational on Oct. 13. Holmes clocked an 8,000-meter time of 24:18 to finish 81st overall.

The Hawkeyes will head to Springfield, Mo., for the 2012 NCAA Midwest Regional on Nov. 9.
