THIS WEEK
The University of Iowa track and field team travels to Ames, Iowa, to compete in the Bill Bergan Invite this weekend. The men’s heptathlon is set to begin Thursday at 1 p.m., and the women’s pentathlon will kick of Friday’s events at 1 p.m. All other events are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. The meet will be held at the Lied Recreational Center.
THE COMPETITION
The Hawkeye men’s team will compete against four nationally ranked opponents. They include No. 8 Minnesota, No. 10 Wisconsin, No. 16 Kansas State, and No. 24 UT Arlington. The women’s team will face two ranked teams, No. 9 Iowa State and No. 18 Wisconsin.
ON THE BIG TEN BOARD
Eight Hawkeyes own marks that rank among the top 5 in the conference. Senior Jordan Mullen’s 60-meter hurdles time of 7.86 ranks second in the Big Ten, and senior Ethan Holmes’ time of 7.93 ranks fifth. Senior Josh Larney’s 60 meters time of 6.78 ranks second. Keaton Rickels’s converted 600 meters time of 1:19.09 is the fifth best recorded time in the Big Ten, while freshman MonTayla Holder’s converted 600 meters time of 1:31.21 ranks fourth. Kevin Lewis’s converted 3,000 meter time of 8:15.16 ranks fourth. Khanishah Williams’s high jump mark of 5-9 1/4 (1.76m) ties for second, and Klyvens Delaunay triple jump leap of 48-10 1/4 (14.89m) ranks third. Times are converted due to the size of the track.
TRIPLE JUMP DUO
Freshmen triple jumpers Klyvens Delaunay and David Nsabua finished first and second, respectively, at the Adidas Classic on Jan. 19. Delaunay’s winning leap of 48-10 1/4 (14.89m) ranks fifth all-time at Iowa, while Nsabua’s mark of 47-3 1/2 (14.41m) ranks ninth. Delaunay’s mark ranks third among Big Ten competitors.
WEIGHT THROW RECORD HOLDERS
Four current Hawkeyes are ranked on the all-time top 10 performers list in the weight throw. Junior Ashlyn Gulvas holds the record with a mark of 60-7 3/4 (18.48m). Sophomore Annemie Smith (60-0 1/4; 18.29m), junior Jasmine Simpson (59-11; 18.26m), and senior Majesty Tutson (58-4; 17.78m) rank third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
HURDLES HEAT UP
Three current Hawkeyes are ranked on the all-time top 10 performers list in the 60-meter hurdles. Senior Jordan Mullen holds the record with a time of 7.75, while senior Ethan Holmes holds the third best time (7.93). Sophomore Torrey Campbell’s time of 8.09 ranks seventh.
MEET THE RECORD HOLDERS
Three Hawkeyes currently hold indoor school records. Senior Justin Austin holds records in the 60 meters (6.69) and 200 meters (20.80), while senior Jordan Mullen holds the 60-meter hurdles (7.75) record. Junior Ashlyn Gulvas holds the school record in the weight throw (60-7 3/4; 18.48m).
RUNNING INTO THE RECORD BOOKS
Five Hawkeyes earned their way into Iowa’s All-Time Top Ten Performers list at the Adidas Classic on Jan. 19. Those Hawkeyes include:
