IOWA CITY, Iowa — When the University of Iowa women’s golf team returns to the course this spring, sophomoreShelby Phillips will be focused and ready.
Phillips has been putting extra work in over winter break to improve her play.
“I have been working really hard to rebuild my swing,” Phillips said. “I want to gain more power driving the ball.”
Phillips, an Arizona native, enjoyed the perfect golf weather in her home state over winter break.
“I basically hung out in Arizona over winter break,” Phillips said. “It’s always nice when you don’t have to travel far to get a round of golf in.”
Personally, Phillips has set the bar high for herself, as her ultimate goal for the spring semester is to win a tournament individually. As a team, Phillips can’t wait to get back with the rest of her teammates.
“Hopefully everyone worked hard over winter break,” Phillips said. “We all want our spring season to be better than our fall season.”
When Phillips returns for her spring semester at the University of Iowa, she will enjoy practicing at the brand new James M. Hoak Family Golf Complex. The 4,200 square foot performance studio includes an indoor putting and chipping green, indoor hitting, two large heated practice bays opening to the outside and a club repair room.
“I can’t wait to get into the new facility,” Phillips said. “It will definitely be an upgrade.”
