Iowa Posts Team-Best Score in Final Round of Westbrook Invite

Final Results

PEORIA, Ariz. — The University of Iowa women’s golf team finished its final round Monday at the Westbrook Invitational, hosted by the University of Wisconsin at the Westbrook Village Golf Club. The Hawkeyes fired a team total 300 (+12) in the final round, their best 18-hole round of the tournament. Iowa carded a 54-hole score of 912 (+48) for a 10th place finish.

“We got off to a great start today, shooting five-under on the front-nine as a team,” head coach Megan Menzel said. “I know that is the potential of this team and we need to continue to think about what we do when we are playing our best so we can get there more often.”

Building off a solid first day, senior Kristi Cardwell paced the Hawkeyes once again, firing a 74 (+2) in her final round. Cardwell shot even par over her last 12 holes. She finished tied for 22nd.

Freshman Amy Ihm continued her strong play, posting her best round of the tournament with a 75 (+3). Ihm carded 14 holes at or below par in her final round. Ihm finished tied for 31st.

“Amy played another solid tournament,” Menzel said. “I am very pleased with the great play we are seeing from her.”

Sophomore Lauren English used a strong start to post her best round of the tournament, carding a 74 (+2). English was one-under par through her first 13 holes. English finished tied for 34th.

Freshman Briana Midkiff posted a 78 (+6) in her final round of the tournament. Midkiff carded four birdies in her final round to go with seven pars. Midkiff finished tied for 42nd.

Sophomore Shelby Phillips carded a 77 (+5) in her final round of the tournament, tying her previous round. Phillips started off strong, shooting even par through her first eight holes. Phillips finished tied for 48th.

Junior Karly Grouwinkel, competing as an individual, posted a 79 (+7) in her final round of the tournament. Grouwinkel carded two birdies and eight pars. Grouwinkel finished tied for 67th.

The Hawkeyes return to action March 15 at the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz.
