Speaker Named to Volleyball Staff

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Tanja Speaker will join the University of Iowa volleyball staff, UI head coach Sharon Dingman has announced. Speaker will serve as interim director of volleyball operations.

“She has a great skill set,” said Dingman. “I like her involvement in a number of different areas of athletics, and I am really excited about what she is going to bring to our staff.”

Speaker has served as a game operations assistant for Texas Stars Hockey since October of 2012 and as a front desk agent at the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center in Austin, Texas, since January of 2012. She worked with Spurs Sports & Entertainment as an Austin Toros Inside Sales Representative from July, 2011 to January of 2012. Speaker also worked as an intern with the AFL’s Milwaukee Mustangs during the summer of the 2011.

In 2009 and 2011, she worked as a coach at Crystal Lake Central High School in Crystal Lake, Ill. Speaker coordinated basketball camps and coached 10th grade girls.

Speaker earned her bachelor of science in sport management from Florida Southern College in May of 2011. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with honors.

At Florida Southern, Speaker was a member of the varsity basketball team, serving as team captain from 2010 to 2011. She was named NCAA-II Academic All-District and earned the NCAA-II Academic Achievement Award. Speaker was a three-time Sunshine State Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll honoree. She was also a member of the Sport Management Club, serving as president from 2010 to 2011, and the Honors Program.

Speaker joins Dingman and assistant coaches Ben Boldt and Angie Boldt. Angie Boldt served as Iowa’s director of operations the last five seasons.
