TUCSON, Ariz. — The University of Iowa women’s golf team currently sits in ninth place at the Mountain View Collegiate, hosted by Kansas State and Missouri at the Mountain View Golf Club. The Hawkeyes carded a two-round total of 598 (+22). Iowa fired a first round total of 296 (+8) and a second round score of 302 (+14).
“I am pleased with the way we played today,” said head coach Megan Menzel. “We continue to get better each time out and we look forward to a few more of our birdie putts falling tomorrow.”
Lauren English paced Iowa on Friday. English shot an even par 72 in her first round, marking the second time this season English has shot a round at or below par. In her second round English fired a 75 (+3). English is currently tied for 19th.
“Lauren did a great job leading the way today,” said Menzel. “Overall it was a solid team performance.”
Sophomore Shelby Phillips fired a 73 (+1) in her first round. Phillips carried that momentum over into her second round and posted a 76 (+4). Phillips is currently tied for 34th heading into the final day of action.
Senior Kristi Cardwell shot a 76 (+4) in her opening round on Friday, but came back strong firing a 73 (+1) in her second round. Cardwell is also tied for 34th.
Freshman Briana Midkiff posted a 75 (+3) in her first round on Friday, her lowest opening round score of her collegiate career. In her second round, Midkiff posted a 78 (+6). Midkiff is tied for 52nd.
Freshman Amy Ihm struggled during day one action, posting an 81 (+9) in her first round and an 85 (+13) in her second. Ihm sits in 79th place.
Final round action will begin at 9:30 a.m. CT Saturday with a shotgun start.
