TUCSON, Ariz. — The University of Iowa women’s golf team finished its final round of the Mountain View Collegiate, hosted by Kansas State and Missouri, at the Mountain View Golf Club on Saturday. The Hawkeyes fired a team total 291 (+3) in the final round, their best 18-hole round of the tournament. Iowa carded a 54-hole score of 889 (+25), their best 54-hole round score on the season, for an eighth place finish.
“I am very happy with how our team played during the final round today,” said head coach Megan Menzel. “Lauren English had a super top-10 finish and put together three very solid rounds of golf.”
Sophomore Lauren English posted her best 18-hole score of the tournament on the final day, firing a 71 (-1), the third time this season English has carded a round at or below par. English fired a 54-hole score of 218 (+2), a new career best. English finished tied for 10th, her third top-10 finish of the season.
Senior Kristi Cardwell followed suit and fired a final round 70 (-2), a new season low. Cardwell posted a 54-hole score of 219 (+3), also a season low. Cardwell finished tied for 14th, which marks the fourth time this year Cardwell has finished inside the top-20.
Sophomore Shelby Phillips carded a 74 (+2) in her final round. Phillips fired a new season best 54-hole score of 223 (+7). Phillips placed tied for 34th individually.
Freshman Briana Midkiff finished the tournament by firing a final round 76 (+4) for a 54-hole score of 229 (+13). Midkiff finished tied for 47th.
Freshman Amy Ihm posted her best 18-hole score of the tournament on the final day, carding an 80 (+8). Ihm finished in 77th place.
“We are gaining confidence each time out,” said Menzel. “We are looking forward to working hard in Phoenix the next three days.”
The Hawkeyes hit the links next on March 18 as they take on Harvard at the Red Mountain Ranch Country Club in Mesa.
