Hawkeyes Finish 7th at Challenge at Onion Creek

Final Results

AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Iowa women’s golf team finished seventh at the Challenge at Onion Creek, hosted by Texas State, at the Onion Creek Original Course. The Hawkeyes fired a team total 298 (+18) in their final round to card a 54-hole score of 895 (+55).

Sophomore Lauren English paced the Hawkeyes on the final day of play firing a 72 (+2). She had 14 pars in her final round to card a 54-hole score of 216 (+6) and finish tied for eighth, her fourth top-10 finish on the season.

Senior Kristi Cardwell posted another solid round shooting a 73 (+3) on the last day of competition. She collected 15 pars during her final round of play to finish tied for 10th with a 54-hole score of 217 (+7). This was Cardwell’s second top-10 finish of the season.

“It was another very solid week for Lauren and Kristi,” said head coach Megan Menzel. “They have really stepped up, and we have seen great consistency out of them this spring.”

Freshman Briana Midkiff put together her best round of the tournament on the final day of play shooting a 75 (+5). Midkiff shot 13 holes at or below par to finish tied for 44th with a 54-hole score of 230 (+20).

Sophomore Shelby Phillips posted a 78 (+8) during her final round of play. She shot nine holes at or below par to finish tied for 50th with a 54-hole score of 232 (+22).

Freshman Amy Ihm also carded a 78 (+8) on the last day of competition. Ihm shot 12 holes at or below par finishing 64th with a 54-hole score of 245 (+35).

“We have a couple of weeks to work hard and prepare for the Lady Buckeye Invite,” said Menzel. “I believe if we work hard we have a huge opportunity to play our best golf at the end of the season.”

The Hawkeyes hit the links next on April 20 at the Lady Buckeye Spring Invite in Columbus, Ohio.
