Hawkeyes Finish 10th at Lady Buckeye

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The University of Iowa women’s golf team finished tenth at the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational, hosted by Ohio State University at the Ohio State University Scarlet Course. The Hawkeyes fired a team total 321 (+33) in their final round to card a 54-hole score of 952 (+88).

“It was a tough day for us but I was pleased with our composure,” head coach Megan Menzel said. “Everyone is eager to get back and work on some putting and chipping. We are striking the ball well, and with some work on our short game, we will be ready for the Big Ten Tournament.”

Sophomore Lauren English posted a solid round of 82 (+10) on the final day of play. English carded 10 holes at or below par in her final round to card a 54-hole score of 238 (+22). English finished tied for 37th.

Senior Kristi Cardwell paced the Hawkeyes on the final day of play firing an 80 (+8). Cardwell sunk 32 pars in the tournament to post a 54-hole score of 239 (+23). Cardwell finished tied for 40th.

Nicole Rae sunk three birdies in her final round to post an 83 (+11) and a 54-hole score of 247 (+31). Rae finished tied for 52nd.

Senior Gigi DiGrazia posted her best score of the tournament coming in with a 77 (+5) which ties a season low. DiGrazia sunk 13 pars in her final round of play to card a 54-hole score of 250 (+34). DiGrazia finished tied for 56th.

Freshman Briana Midkiff also posted her best score of the tournament on the final day firing an 82 (+10). Midkiff carded a 54-hole score of 252 (+36) and finished in 62nd place.

Sophomore Shelby Phillips put together three solid rounds of golf at the Lady Buckeye but unfortunately signed an incorrect score card on the final day of play, taking a 40 on hole No. 18 instead of a 4. Phillips carded a 54-hole score of 267 (+51) and finished tied for 70th.

“Shelby had a great tournament but unfortunately she signed for an incorrect score card,” said Menzel. “She played three great rounds on a tough golf course.”

The Hawkeyes hit the links next on April 26 at the Big Ten Championships in French Lick, Ind.
