Hawkeyes Travel to Fighting Camel Classic

THIS WEEK
The University of Iowa women’s golf team concludes the fall season at the Fighting Camel Classic in Buies Creek, N.C. The 54-hole tournament is hosted by Campbell University at the Keith Hills Country Club Orange and Black Courses (par 72, total yards 6,026). Competition begins both Monday and Tuesday with a shotgun start at 9:45 a.m. (CT). Live scoring for the event will be available at the Iowa women’s golf schedule page and at golfstat.com

QUOTING COACH MEGAN MENZEL
“We look forward to concluding our fall season in North Carolina,” said UI head coach Megan Menzel. “We have had a solid week of practice with a strong focus on short game and on course time. We continue to work to get just a little bit better each day and to gain some confidence in our games. I think the difference for us will be a commitment this week to get out of our own way and make sure we are playing with clear heads.”

THE LINE-UP
Jessie Sindlinger, Briana Midkiff, Nicole Rae, Shelby Phillips, and Karly Grouwinkel will be competing for the Hawkeyes in the Fighting Camel Classic.

THE COMPETITION
The 12-team field features Campbell, Gardner-Webb, High Point, Iowa, Longwood, Mercer, Nova Southeastern, Old Dominion, Richmond, Western Carolina, and Winthrop.

LAST TIME OUT
The Hawkeyes honored former Iowa women’s golf coach Diane Thomason as they hosted the Diane Thomason Invi- tational on Oct. 12-13. Freshman Jessie Sindlinger paced Iowa in the tournament, registering a 230 (+14) to tie for 19th place. Iowa finished sixth in a field of 12 teams with a 54-hole total of 922 (+58).

STRONG START FOR PHILLIPS
In her first tournament of the year, junior Shelby Phillips fired a 67 (-5) to tie Iowa’s all-time best single round performance and set a new Chip-N-Club Invitational tournament record. Phillips carded a 220 (+4) to tie for fifth place overall. Her score contributed to Iowa’s fourth place finish in a field of 13 teams.

RETURN TO ACTION
The Hawkeyes kick off their spring schedule Feb. 23-24 in Peoria, Ariz., at the Westbrook Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin. The 54-hole tournament will take place at the Westbrook Village Golf Club.
