AMES, Iowa – University of Iowa track and field athletes Jack Eckert and Alec Cranford competed in day one of the Bill Bergan Invitational heptathlon competition on Thursday. The Hawkeyes recorded two personal-best marks on the afternoon at the Lied Recreation Athletic Center.
Eckert (2599) is in fifth place following the first day of action. The senior clocked a personal-best time in the 60 meters. He finished sixth in the event with a time of 7.46. Eckert earned a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 39-1 (11.91m). He then finished fifth in the long jump (20-2 ¼; 6.15m), and high jump (6-0; 1.83m).
Cranford is in sixth place (2386) following four events. The freshman recorded a personal-best time of 7.37 to finish fourth in the 60 meters. Cranford then recorded sixth-place finishes in the long jump (19-4 ¾; 5.91m), shot put (24-3; 10.44m), and high jump (5-7 ¼; 1.71m).
The Bill Bergan Invitational resumes Friday at 10:00 a.m. (CT).
