PEORIA, Ariz. — The University of Iowa women’s golf team is tied for ninth after 36-holes at the Westbrook Invitational on Sunday. The Hawkeyes fired a 291 (+3) in the opening round followed by a 294 (+6) for a total of 585 (+9) on the day.
“I thought we played two solid rounds today,” said head coach Megan Menzel. “The team stayed patient, and we saw some great growth and improvement from the fall season.”
The Hawkeyes were led by freshman Jessie Sindlinger. Sindlinger carded a 70 (-2) and 73 (+1) in the first and second rounds, respectively. Her 36-hole total of 143 (-1) ties her for 13th.
Junior Shelby Phillips recorded a 72 (E) in the opening round before shooting a 73 (+1) to finish the day tied for 24th. Her 36-hole total of 145 (+1) marks a new career best.
Sophomore Briana Midkiff shot a 77 (+5) on the first 18-holes, then followed up with a strong second round, including two birdies and two bogies to make par. Midkiff’s 36-hole total of 149 (+5) ties her for 45th place.
Senior Karly Grouwinkel opened the tournament with a 74 (+2) then fired a 76 (+4) to total 150 (+6) on the day. She currently sits in a tie for 56th.
Junior Nicole Rae rounded out the Hawkeye lineup with scores of 75 (+3) and 78 (+6) in the first and second rounds, respectively, to total 153 (+9). After two rounds, Rae sits tied for 69th place.
Freshman Allison Lindley competed as an individual. She fired an 82 (+10) in the opening round, followed by a 76 (+4) in the second round. Her 36-hole total of 158 (+14) ties her for 75th.
The Hawkeyes will return to action with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. (CT) on Monday in the final round of the Westbrook Invitational. Live scoring will be available at the Iowa women’s golf schedule page and on golfstat.com.
