Hawkeyes Conclude Westbrook Invitational with 54-Hole Record

PEORIA, Ariz. — The University of Iowa women’s golf team fired a 292 (+4) in the final round of the Westbrook Invitational on Monday. The Hawkeyes established a new 54-hole school record with their 877 (+13) team total. The previous record was set at the Westbrook Invitational in 2012 when the team recorded an 879.

Junior Shelby Phillips led the Black and Gold, firing a 71 (-1) in the final round. Phillips’ three round total of 216 (E) tied her for 14th place overall and marked her third top-20 finish of the year.

“I felt confident playing the last couple of days,” said Phillips. “I went through my process, trusted my swing, and expected the results. As a team, we weren’t happy with where we were on the leaderboard, but there were a lot of positive moments.”

Freshman Jessie Sindlinger carded a 75 (+3) to finish the tournament tied for 22nd with a score of 218 (+2). Her 54-hole score marks a new career best.

Sophomore Briana Midkiff shot a 73 (+1) to end in a tie for 45th place with a 222 (+6) tournament total.

Senior Karly Grouwinkel recorded a 74 (+2) to finish out the tournament with a three round total of 224 (+8). Grouwinkel’s score tied her for 51st.

Junior Nicole Rae rounded out the Hawkeye lineup. Rae fired a 74 (+2) to record her best round of the tournament. She tied for 67th with a 54-hole score of 227 (+11).

Freshman Allison Lindley competed as an individual. Lindley fired a 78 (+6) in the final round for a 236 (+20) tournament total good for 77th place.

“We are looking forward to Florida and being able to clean up our games the next couple of days at home,” said Phillps.

The Hawkeyes return to action at the Hurricane Invitational on March 3-5. The 54-hole tournament will be hosted by the University of Miami at the Biltmore Golf Course (par 71, yardage 6,092). Live scoring will be available throughout the tournament at golfstat.com.
