ST. GEORGE, Utah — The University of Iowa women’s golf team placed 10th in a field of 16 teams, featuring three ranked opponents, today at the BYU Entrada Classic at Snow Canyon Country Club. The Hawkeyes fired a 315 (+27) in the final round for a 966 (+102) team total.
“The golf course gave us a big challenge, and I think all of our players have some good things to work on going forward,” said head coach Megan Menzel. “Playing Entrada this week will make us better.”
Junior Shelby Phillips fired her tournament-low, 73 (+1). Phillips tied for ninth to record her third top-10 finish of the season with a 54-hole total of 233 (+17).
“It was great to see Shelby finish strong today and move into the top-10,” said Menzel.
Freshman Jessie Sindlinger carded an 81 (+9) in the final round to finish the tournament with a 246 (+30). Sindlinger’s score tied her for 44th on the leaderboard.
Briana Midkiff finished in a tie for 50th place with a three-round total of 248 (+32). The sophomore recorded her tournament low, 79 (+7), in the final round.
Senior Karly Grouwinkel recorded an 82 (+10) for a 54-hole score of 250 (+34). Grouwinkel’s score tied her for 55th overall.
After recording a career best 18-hole score in the opening round, junior Nicole Rae fired a 91 (+19) and 92 (+20) to finish with 257 (+41) and tie for 68th place.
Iowa returns to action at the Dallas Athletic Club Invitational on April 4-6. The 54-hole tournament will be hosted by the SMU Mustangs in Dallas, Texas.
