UI Volleyball Spring Schedule Announced

March 20, 2014

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa volleyball program announced its spring slate this week. The Hawkeyes will compete for new head coach Bond Shymansky for the first time in four away tournaments.

“Spring is a great time for us to grow, change, learn, improve and obviously evaluate,” Shymansky said. “We have a lot to figure out as a coaching staff and as a team in terms of creating and shaping our new identity. It will take some time and some patience but I love the work effort that everyone in the program is putting toward making that change. We’re excited to get out there and compete against other teams this spring and to push our group to strive for new successes.”

The spring season begins on March 29 at Western Illinois where the Hawkeyes will challenge Bradley and tournament host Fighting Leathernecks. The team takes part in its second tournament on April 5 at South Dakota. Iowa is slated to play one match against the Coyotes and two against Creighton.

The Hawkeyes are scheduled to play in the UNI Spring Tournament on April 12 and will conclude their spring slate with a Saint Louis Spring Tournament appearance on April 26. Opponents and match start times have yet to be determined.

“The spring season goes by very fast, and we have to make sure we make the absolute most out of each of those days we train together,” Shymansky said. “We’ll have a chance to be great every single day this spring, and we certainly expect our group to rise to that challenge.”
