WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The University of Iowa women’s golf team placed third behind Kent State and Purdue on Saturday at the Rainy Day Shootout hosted at the Boilermakers’ Kampen Course. The Hawkeyes carded a 309 (+21) and a 319 (+31) in the first and second rounds, respectively, for a 36-hole total of 628 (+52).
“This tournament was a great opportunity for us to get some experience on a Pete Dye course, which is what we will be playing in the Big Ten Tournament,” said head coach Megan Menzel. “I am pleased we were able to get some more competitive rounds in for players throughout our lineup.”
Senior Karly Grouwinkel and sophomore Amy Ihm were the Hawkeyes’ top finishers, tying for 6th place on the leaderboard with a 157 (+13). Grouwinkel fired an 81 (+9) in the opening round followed by 76 (+4) in the final round. Ihm recorded a 77 (+5) followed by an 80 (+8).
Jessie Sindlinger shot an 80 (+8) and a 79 (+7) for a two-round total of 159 (+15). The freshman’s score was tied for eighth place overall.
Senior Anna DePalma opened with a 77 (+5) followed by an 85 (+13) to tie for 11th place with a 36-hole score of 162 (+18).
Freshman Allison Lindley and junior Nicole Rae both recorded a 163 (+19), good for 13th place. Lindley fired a 79 (+7) and an 84 (+12) in the first and second rounds, respectively. Rae shot a 76 (+4), followed by an 87 (+15).
“I am pleased to continue to see progress out of our team,” said Menzel. “We look forward to a strong finish to our season.”
Iowa returns to action at the Lady Buckeye Invitational on April 19-20. The 54-hole tournament will be hosted by Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio.
