Iowa Sits in 8th After 36 Holes

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The University of Iowa women’s golf team carded a 320 (+32) and 306 (+18) in the first and second rounds, respectively, on Saturday at the 2014 Buckeye Invitational. The Hawkeyes’ 36-hole total of 626 (+50) was good for eighth in a field of 12 teams.

After two rounds, Senior Karly Grouwinkel, leads the Black and Gold. Grouwinkel fired a 77 (+5) in the opening round followed by a 76 (+4) for a 153 (+9), tying for 15th place.

“I was very happy with how I attacked the golf course and played with confidence,” said Grouwinkel. “I had so much fun playing today. The team did a really good job battling back in the second round. We are ready to go get them tomorrow.”

Junior Shelby Phillips and freshman Jessie Sindlinger are tied for 31st on the leaderboard with 157 (+13) two-round total. Phillips shot an 81 (+9) and a 76 (+4), while Sindlinger recorded an 80 (+8) and 77 (+5).

Freshman Allison Lindley fired an 82 (+10) in the opening round, and then improved five strokes in the second round with a 77 (+5). Her score of 159 (+15) tied for 40th.

Sophomore Amy Ihm and Senior Anna DePalma both carded a 165 (+21) to tie for 61st place. Ihm scored an 85 (+13) and an 80 (+8). DePalma fired an 82 (+10) and an 83 (+11).

“Our team had a good second round today,” said head coach Megan Menzel. “Karly played solid golf today and lead the way for us. This course is always a good challenge, and I definitely saw some improvement with our team today.”

The Hawkeyes resume action at the Buckeye Invitational on Sunday. Tee times begin at 9:30 a.m. (CT). Live scoring will be available at golfstat.com.
