COLUMBUS, Ohio — The University of Iowa women’s golf team carded a 312 (+24) on Sunday in the final round of the 2014 Lady Buckeye Invitational hosted at the Ohio State University Golf Club. The Hawkeyes score of 938 (+74) tied for eighth in a field of 12 teams.
“Overall I think we battled well this week,” said head coach Megan Menzel. “I like how we had our freshmen and sophomore step up for us today.”
Freshman Jessie Sindlinger was Iowa’s top finisher, tying for 31st on the leaderboard. Sindlinger fired a 78 (+6) in the final round for a 235 (+19) tournament total.
Freshman Allison Lindley followed close behind, finishing in a tie for 34th. Lindley recorded a 77 (+5) for a 54-hole score of 236 (+20).
Senior Karly Grouwinkel carded an 84 (+12) to finish with a 237 (+21), tying for 38th.
Junior Shelby Phillips recorded an 81 (+9) for a three-round total of 238 (+22). Phillips’ score tied for 44th place overall.
Sophomore Amy Ihm fired a 76 (+4) in the final round to record her tournament-low. Her 54-hole score of 241 (+25) tied for 55th on the leaderboard.
Senior Anna DePalma also shot her tournament-low on Sunday. She scored an 81 (+9) for a 246 (+30) 54-hole total. DePalma’s score tied for 60th.
“We can take some positives from today and build for a solid Big Ten Tournament,” said Menzel.
The Hawkeyes return to action at the 2014 Big Ten Championships in French Lick, Ind., on April 25-27. The 3-day, 54-hole tournament will be held at the historic Donald Ross Golf Course (par 72, yardage 6,121). Live scoring will be available at golfstat.com throughout the event.
