April 23, 2014

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa men’s golfer Steven Ihm has been named Co-Big Ten Golfer of the Week for the second-consecutive week and fifth time of his career. The honor comes after Ihm successfully defended his individual title at the Boilermaker Invitational, leading the Hawkeyes to the team title for the second-straight week and second-straight season, mounting a 10-stroke comeback on the final day.

Ihm carded a seven-under-par 54-hole score of 209 at the Kampen Golf Course, highlighted by a career-best final round eight-under-par 64 in which he birdied seven of his first eight holes. The 18-hole score is the second-best in program history. The individual title is the fourth of Ihm’s Hawkeye career, and his second in as many weeks.

The senior led Iowa to its second best team 18-hole score in program history in the final round with a 14-under-par 274.

Ihm was also named the Golfweek Player of the Week and Iowa was named the Golfweek Team of the Week following the Hawkeyes’ victory in the 15-team Boilermaker Invitational.

Iowa has recorded top finishes in all five of its events this spring, winning two tournament titles (Hawkeye-GRE Invitational, Boilermaker Invitational). The Hawkeyes placed fourth at the Big Ten Match Play Championships, won the Big Four Championship, and finished runner-up at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational.

The Hawkeyes return to action, May 2-4, at the Big Ten Championships in French Lick, Ind.
