Hawkeyes Place 9th at Big Ten Championships

FRENCH LICK, Ind. — The University of Iowa women’s golf team carded a 306 (+18) on Sunday in the final round of the 2014 Big Ten Championships at the award-winning Pete Dye Course. Iowa’s 54-hole score of 926 (+62) was good for ninth place.

“The team played hard this week,” said head coach Megan Menzel. “Karly had a really solid Big Ten Tournament, and it was great to see her play so well today.”

In her final round as a Hawkeye, senior Karly Grouwinkel recorded her tournament best and matched her season best 18-hole performance with a 73 (+1). Grouwinkel’s score of 228 (+12) tied for 13th place on the leaderboard, marking her third top-20 finish of the year.

“I wanted to go out and post a good final round,” said Grouwinkel. “I could not have asked for a better day today. I ended my golfing career on a high note.”

Freshman Jessie Sindlinger tied for 23rd. Sindlinger fired a 76 (+4) for a 54-hole total of 231 (+15).

Sophomore Briana Midkiff carded a 78 (+6) in the final round to finish the tournament tied for 44th place with a score of 237 (+21).

Freshman Allison Lindley followed close behind, recording a 238 (+22) to tie for 49th overall. The Indiana native shot a 79 (+7) in Sunday’s round.

Sophomore Amy Ihm recorded an 81 (+9). Her 54-hole score of 243 (+27) tied for 61st place on the leaderboard.

Junior Shelby Phillips rounded out the Hawkeye line up, firing her tournament best in the final round. Phillips carded a 79 (+7) to total 274 (+31). Her score was good for 67th.

“I am excited about the portion of our roster that returns, and as soon as we wake up tomorrow morning we begin preparation for the fall season,” said Menzel. “We gained a ton of experience this spring, and this team is ready to work hard over the summer and win some tournaments next fall.”
