IOWA CITY, Iowa — Former University of Iowa track and field national champion Mike Mondane passed away Monday, May 19, 2014 at the age of 67.
Mondane won an NCAA title in 1967 as a member of Iowa’s mile relay. He was a three-time All-American and six-time Big Ten champion for the Hawkeyes from 1966-68, and his personal best time of 45.20 in the 400 meters, set in 1967, ranks third in school history.
In 2002, he was inducted into the National Iowa Varsity Club Athletics Hall of Fame.
Mondane, a retired Chicago Police Officer, resided in Illinois at the time of his death. He is survived by daughters Brittany and Natalie, and his loving companion Pam.
Visitation is Thursday, May 22 from 3-9 p.m. (CT) at Cumberland Chapels in Norridge, Illinois. Funeral services begin Friday, May 23 at 9 a.m. (CT) at the funeral home and will proceed to Our Lady Mother of the Church.
