FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The University of Iowa track and field team advanced two student athletes to the NCAA final site and sent three more to the quarterfinals following day 2 of competition at the 2014 NCAA Track and Field Outdoor Championships.

Senior Zinnia Miller qualified for the NCAA Championship finals with a seventh-place finish in the triple jump. Miller, who did not compete in the event until this season, recorded a leap of 41-11 ½ (12.79m) on her final attempt to earn her second ticket to Eugene. Miller qualified for the finals site in the long jump (20-6 ½; 6.26m) on Thursday.

MonTayla Holder is also heading to Eugene following a third-place finish in her 400-meter hurdles heat. The sophomore crossed the line in 58.19.

Freshman Brittany Brown broke her own school record en route to a second-place finish in her heat and a spot in the women’s 200-meter quarterfinals. Brown clocked a personal-best time of 23.11, besting her previous school record of 23.45 (Big Ten Championships, 5/18/14).

O’Shea Wilson earned a quarterfinals birth in the 200 meters. The freshman recorded a 21.18 to finish 24th overall and sixth in his heat. The men’s 200 meters quarterfinal is set for tomorrow at 7:35 p.m. (CT) with the women’s event following at 7:50 p.m.

Freshman Aaron Mallett used a personal-best performance in the men’s 110-meter hurdles to qualify for the quarterfinals. Mallett clocked a 13.96 to finish third in his heat and 14th overall. His time ranks seventh on Iowa’s all-time list. The 110-meter hurdles quarterfinal is scheduled for tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. (CT).

“The stars came out tonight for Iowa,” said head coach Layne Anderson. “Today’s Hawkeyes set a great tone for the final day tomorrow where we have more work to get done.”
