IOWA CITY, Iowa — Incoming University of Iowa freshman Marta Bote Gonzalez will represent Spain in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Eugene, Oregon, on July 22-27.
Bote Gonzalez, a native of Merida, Spain, placed seventh in the steeplechase at the 2013 World Youth Track and Field Championships, completing the 2,000-meter race in a personal-best 6:45.88.
“Marta is a great addition who is distinguishing herself on the international stage,” said head coach Layne Anderson. “She will immediately impact the program in the steeplechase and we could not be more thrilled to have her represent Spain at a global championship.”
The IAAF World Junior Championships is set for July 22-27. The women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase is scheduled for July 24 at 8:05 a.m. (CT). The finals follow on July 26 at 2:55 p.m. (CT).
