IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s golf team finished second in a field of 13 teams in the Diane Thomason Invitational, carding a final round 303 (+15) on Sunday at Finkbine Golf Course. Iowa notched rounds of 326, 302, and 303 for a total of 931. Illinois won the event with a total of 917 (310, 316, 291).
“We put together a solid round. We just haven’t got it rolling as of yet, We played a little cleaner, but we didn’t get the birdies to fall as much as we hoped,” said UI head coach Megan Menzel.
After great first and second rounds, junior Amy Ihm stayed consistent during the final round, notching a 77 (+5). Ihm made par on 10 holes in the final round, she also birdied hole No. 7 and No. 12. She finished the tournament tied for fifth, marking the best finish of her career.
Sophomore Jessie Sindlinger continued to build off her good performance on day one, posting a final round 75 (+3), the second-best score for Iowa on the day. She finished tied for 10th with a total of 232 (85, 72, 75).
Freshman Jessica Ip posted a total of 234 (+18), registering a third-round 77 (+5). She finished the tournament tied for 14th.
Senior Shelby Phillips had a good end to her tournament, pacing the Hawkeyes with a final round 74 (+2). Phillips tied for 26th, jumping up 18 spots from the end of the second round. Freshman Elisa Suarez also tied for 26th with Phillips, registering a three-round 239 (+23). Suarez posted rounds of 85, 77, and 77.
Senior Jessie Jordan, junior Briana Midkiff, freshman Morgan Kukla, senior Nicole Rae and freshman Anna Kim all participated as individuals. Rae finished play tied for fourth among all individuals and tied for 37th overall, posting a three-round 241 (80, 79, 82). Midkiff had her best round on the final day posting a 79 (+7). She finished tied for 51st (84, 82, 79). Kim ended the weekend in 53rd (83, 79, 84). Jordan finished tied for 71st (92, 81, 82), and Kukla finished 74th (88, 85, 85).
The Hawkeyes return to action at the Old Waverly Bulldog Invitational, Oct. 20-22, in Starkville, Mississippi.
