Iowa Tied For 6th at Old Waverly Bulldog Invite

STARKVILLE, Miss. — The University of Iowa women’s golf team finished the first day of the Old Waverly Bulldog Invitational on Monday at Old Waverly Golf Course, tallying a first round 298 (+10). The Hawkeyes sit tied for sixth with Memphis in the field of 13 team following 18 holes, with two rounds to play on Tuesday and Wednesday. Host Mississippi State (-3) leads the event.

Freshman Elisa Suarez had the best round for Iowa, posting an even-par 72. Suarez made par on six of the front nine holes while also tallying a birdie on holes eight and nine. She stayed consistent on the back nine making par on four holes, birdieing holes 13 and 16. After the first round, the freshman is tied for eighth.

Shelby Phillips ended her day with a first round 75 (+3). The senior was two over par on the front nine, making par on seven holes. Like her teammate Suarez, Phillips was able to stay consistent going one over par on the back nine, registering a birdie on hole number 10. She sits tied for 27th.

Jessie Sindlinger also sits tied for 27th after day one, posting a first round 75 (+3). Right behind Phillips and Sindlinger is Jessica Ip. The freshman tallied a first round 76 (+4) one stroke behind her teammates. After day one, Ip is tied for 32nd.

Rounding out the Hawkeye squad is junior Amy Ihm, fresh off a career performance at the Diane Thomason Invitational, she registered a first round 80 (+8).

Iowa continues action in Starkville on Tuesday, with the second round set to tee off at 8:30 a.m. (CT).
